Put simply Process Mapping is a method of identifying each step in your business process. You can chart the flow of materials or the flow of information. Some people use IDEF modeling or flow charts but we would recommend Process Mapping.
Using the symbols shown you can identify all the added value and non value added steps and simplify to eliminate the non value added make your processes simpler and more effective.
The example below shows a team proces mapping this process map went round the room. After it was simplified it took up half a wall.
If this is such an important tool why do you need help? Process Mapping is an art getting the right level of detail for what you want to do takes practice and skill. Most people also don't ask the people who do the job they think they know what happens. Working in teams is the best solution.
